Ethical Matrix Lesson for Food Deserts

Overview

The changes I made are intended to make this lesson more relevant for high school (HS) age students. First, I adjusted the language in the materials to use‘Teen’ instead of ‘Child’ most HS and MS students do not like to be referred to as a child and I wanted to relate it directly to my students. I also added ‘Store’ instead of ‘Doctor’ because in areas of low socioeconomic area and doctor visits are less common and clinics with nurse practitioners are. Therefore, using 'store' is more relevant for students in very urban or rural areas. With this adjustment, teachers can talk with their students about topics relevant to their lives like (a) the people that work in the store; (b) the food available in local stores; (c) the accessibility of local stores; (d) the impact that the people, supplies, and accessibility of stores has on their lives.
