This lesson about identifying the jobs of a Generator and Discriminator has been modified to include another example that could be relatable to students. Baking (generating) a cake from scratch.

I added a "practical example" to Page 11 (teaching script). In this, I wanted to relate the idea of a generator vs. discriminator to their personal lives and did so by asking if the students ever tried to figure out how something was made by guessing over and over and over again. By starting with a random guess and then submitting their guess for feedback many times, they are acting as the generator. And as the parent/teacher gives them feedback about whether they have got it right, they are being the discriminator. This is designed for all students (any culture group), but might resonate with those who enjoy cooking/baking. The analogy is designed to provide students with an "everyday" example from their life. So it doesn't have to be about baking (that is just the analogy that I use).

This is a script built into the lesson and can be used by teachers if they see it to be relatable to their students. Teachers can also adapt this by bringing in more culturally relevant examples (ex in the Southwest, students might relate better to building a good tasting and well structured burrito, or cooking fry bread or sopapillas from scratch instead of baking a cake. Other students might relate better to making a pizza from scratch, etc).
