Activity Overview
This activity asks students to write an algorithm for the "best" pb&j sandwich, and so introduces the concept of designing an algorithm to meet one value over another (optimizing).
Total Activity Time: 30 minutes
Materials:
- Best PB+J In-Person Worksheet
- Best PB+J In-Person Online Worksheet
Prep:
- Print the in-person worksheet
- For groups, provide chart paper and markers
- Optional: create a student example/model using the worksheet
Options for Differentiation
- Assign partners or small heterogeneous ability groups of 3-4 for “Best PB+J” activity and brainstorming sessions.
- Adjust “Best PB+J” activity directions to say students should create an algorithm of 3-4 steps (making this a shorter version).
- Remind students that, if they finish early, they can continue to work on their “Explore AI Journal”, which students can work on as an ongoing project.
