2.4 Generate a Story Lesson

Note: This introductory video and lesson were created in 2022. Generative AI technology has significantly advanced since then. Please use the concepts introduced here as foundational, but not current.

Lesson Overview

In this lesson, students will create stories of their own with GAN text and art tools. Students will learn to use GAN-based generation tools to generate texts and form them into stories.

Total Lesson Time:  55 min (75 minutes with an extension)

Learning Objectives:  Students will be able to . . .

  • Develop an original story using GAN-based generation tools to generate text and pictures
  • Compare the process of writing a story with a text generator to the traditional writing process to identify strategies and limitations for writing with a text generator

Vocabulary Introduced:  neural language processing (NLP), natural language generation (NLG), text generator, corpus, seed text, temperature

Pacing:

  1. Opening (5 min)
  2. Introduction to new material, terms, guided practice (15 min)
  3. Storytelling with GANs Activity (25 min)
  4. Wrap-up + Exit Ticket (10 min)

Extension Activity:  Optional Extension Activity: OpenAI News Articles (20 min)
