Lesson Overview
In this activity, students will learn about what STEM jobs are, why they should consider STEM jobs, and why it is important for everyone to participate in STEM jobs.
Total Lesson Time: 45 min
Learning Objectives: Students will be able to . . .
- Describe what STEM jobs are.
- Name the benefits of choosing STEM jobs.
- Recognize the importance of diversity in the STEM workforce.
Vocabulary: We recommend introducing students to the following terms in advance of this lesson

Pacing:
- Opening and connecting to the previous career session (5 min)
- Showing students what STEM Jobs are and why choose them (15 min)
- Guiding students to complete their Inventory of Me worksheets (20 min)
- Result sharing & Wrap-up (10 min)

Preparation Needed: 10-15 min
Prep Needed for Teaching In-Person:
- Teachers should know what STEM stands for and be able to give some examples of STEM jobs.
- Teachers should familiarize themselves with the “Why STEM Jobs” slides.
